Family Consultant
Kate is a Family Consultant as well as a qualified Relationship therapist with over 18 years experience. She began her training at ChildLine in 2006 before going on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Therapeutic Counselling at the University of Brighton and then built on this experience with a couples therapy training at Tavistock Relationships followed by extensive training in Emotionally Focussed Therapy for Couples and for Families. EFT is an experiential attachment-based and systemic approach that focuses on accessing and healing emotions and strengthening relational bonds by facilitating new ways of talking and responding to significant others.
Kate draws on her therapeutic training in her work as a Family Consultant to aid effective communication during what is often felt as a difficult time of transition. As well as supporting clients emotionally, Kate is able to provide help and support around the more practical aspects of the separation process – for example in drawing up a parenting plan and thinking ahead to what you’d like the co-parenting relationship to look and feel like, and working on any blocks that might be hindering you in this process. Kate is also able to work alongside Mediators and Family Lawyers and can tailor support to the unique needs of the client.
Kate is Lead Practitioner at The Therapy Clinic and works with a team of experienced therapists – providing a further referral route for clients that might benefit from some additional therapeutic support. As a starting point, at the Therapy Clinic we recommend that separating couples meet for an initial consultation with a Family Consultant, this provides an opportunity for us to get a better understanding of where you are in the process as well as what you’re looking for and from there we’ll be able to make recommendations for a path forward.
